How does the AIRpipe triple pipe system actually work?
Three flat tubes are mounted between the tarpaulin and the transverse roof bows. The tarpaulin is reconnected to the transverse bow using special retaining brackets. When activating the system, the flat tubes are filled with air from the ancillary consumer circuit (circuit 4) of the vehicle. In this way, the tarpaulin is raised by approx. 20 cm in the centre and approx. 8 cm to the side. The accumulation of water is thus prevented and the formation of ice is no longer possible. The construction with 3 tubes also enables to remove already existing ice from the roof.
The air control has solely pneumatic functions and can also be supplied with a forced ventilation. An electric connection is not required. The emptying of the tubes before departure is carried out by means of a suction device within the control system.
The AIRpipe can also be operated at standstill during every driving break and for the duration of the entire standing time, even without towing vehicle. In this way, water and ice cannot accumulate on the tarpaulin in the first place and damages to superstructures and loads which arise from the weight of ice or water seepage can be avoided.
Why 3 pipes?
The concept as a triple pipe system ensures that the tarpaulin is lifted in its entirety and that the entire roof area is consequently cleared from water and ice.
Even though AIRpipe is used preventively, the triple pipe system also allows to actively remove heavily ice-covered surfaces from the life-threatening roof load.
E.g. in the case of swap bodies, where major problems related to icing frequently occur due to mostly longer dwell times.
What is the purpose of the connection?
Due to the special elastic cords and spring clamps, the tarpaulin remains for security reasons firmly connected to vehicle even after the installation of AIRpipe. Moreover, the tarpaulin as well as the roller units and the joints of the sliding roof are protected.
The connection also enables the fulfilment of the technical requirements for the rail transport. (Confirmation of DB Schenker in accordance with EN13641-1 is at hand).
Does the sliding roof still function with AIRpipe?
The functionality of a sliding roof is not impaired; opening on both sides is possible with the mounted flat tubes.
Using the hoisting rope which we use for lifting our pipes, we simultaneously lift the potentially existing tensioning cables in the roof, which allows an unhindered loading and unloading procedure.
Is the AIRpipe system also available for other types of trailers?
Yes, the AIRpipe triple pipe system is available for all roof types sliding roofs, fixed roofs, box bodies and swap bodies.
Can trailers be retrofitted with the AIRpipe system?
Yes, without any problem. Original equipment and retrofittable using the existing tarpaulin.
How long does it take to install an AIRpipe system on a semi-truck?
In principle the system can be mounted by one man. However, we recommend a two men assembly of the system in order to reduce the mounting time. In case of two men, the maximum mounting time is 2 1/2 hours (in case of a vehicle length of 13.60 m)
Is AIRpipe required by law?
No. Nevertheless, the law stipulates that the load on trucks must be secured in a way that it does not represent a threat to other road users. Ice and water are in this context also considered as load. Before each ride, the truck driver has to remove water or ice and other deposits from the tarpaulin
Unfortunately, truck drivers find themselves in a dilemma since another law disallows working above a height of three metres without any safety devices, but is there any driver who carries a scaffolding along? Here we offer a secure, prompt, and low-cost solution with our AIRpipe system. The truck drivers consequently comply with the highest legal standards.
Which financing possibilities exist?
AIRpipe can be co-financed when acquiring a new trailer (leasing).
